Labor commits $15million for Footscray Education Precinct

In great news for our community, Labor will commit $15 million to make Footscray the potential home of a preschool-to-postgraduate education precinct.

Member for Footscray Marsha Thomson was joined by Opposition Leader Daniel Andrews, Member for Williamstown Wade Noonan, along with Shadow Education Minister James Merlino to deliver the news.

Labor’s proposal – a national first – will bring together early childhood education providers, Footscray City Primary School, Footscray City College, Victoria University and other stakeholders.

The precinct complements VU and Maribyrnong City Council’s ‘University Town’ strategy for Footscray. Once the proposal passes a feasibility study, a master plan will be developed with VU, schools and other stakeholders.

Labor’s $15 million commitment will also allow for the potential relocation of Footscray City College within the precinct, providing staff and students with state-of-the-art facilities for more space to grow.

This plan will make Footscray the centre of learning, so anyone – no matter what their age or background – can access quality education.
