Indian Cultural Precinct for Melbourne’s West
One of the factors that makes Melbourne the world’s most liveable city is our diversity. As any resident of Melbourne’s western suburbs knows, the thriving and growing Indian community is a major contributor.
At last year’s election, Labor promised to deliver an Indian Cultural Precinct. Minister for Multicultural Affairs Robin Scott recently announced that Dandenong will be home to Victoria’s first ever Indian Cultural Precinct, in the existing Little India precinct of Dandenong.
In addition, the Andrews Labor Government will establish an Indian Cultural Precinct or community centre in Wyndham in Melbourne’s West.
The Labor Government will commit $500,000 from the Cultural Precincts Fund towards its development, with an exact location to be determined.
The project is a significant win for community and parliamentary support for the project in Melbourne’s Western suburbs, and a recognition that our region is a diverse and desirable place to be. I welcome the opportunity for Victorians to celebrate their culture in this positive project.
